Alfred Joe – Navajo
We have worked with Al Joe since 1972, at a time when he created the finest chip inlay jewelry. Chip inlay, first created by the Dodge family of Shiprock, New Mexico, was made famous by Tommy Singer. Al, however, only dabbled in this as a young silver smith. His uncle, Colbert Joe, Sr., was his teacher and urged him to work with traditional designs.
Since 1972, Alfred Joe has won every major award Indian Country bestows on its finest jewelers, including: Best in show Eight Northern Indian Arts and Crafts Show; Best in Show , Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial; and firsts at Santa Fe Indian Market in 1988, 1990, 1991, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000 and 2001. In 2001, the Indian Arts and Crafts Association named Al Joe Artist of the Year. We are proud to represent Al, trading with him much of the gem grade turquoise he sets to create some of the finest and most collectible gold and silver jewelry in the world.
