Liz Wallace – Navajo/Maido and Washoe
Liz Wallace is Maido and Washoe on her dad Alan’s side. She is Navajo on her mother Kathryn’s side. Both her parents were talented silver and goldsmiths. Her mother’s clan were the Tachlinli or the red running water people. Her use of traditional Dine themes comes naturally as does her use of art nouveau and deco. She started her career in 1996 and was picked in 2009 for a Southwest Association on Indian Art fellowship, one of five out of hundreds of applicants. Initially she became known for her use of natural high grade turquoise to create insect forms including butterflies and dragonflies. Today she is also known for her extravagant jewelry with a multimedia focus. In 2012 she was chosen one of 14 top Indian jewelers to create a “friendship necklace” to be auctioned to benefit SWAIA. Liz states that her vision “is to create high quality and interesting heirloom pieces that stand the test of time and are a good investment.”

Seven perfectly matched rare gem grade Montezuma spiderweb turquoise cabochons from Nevada are elegantly combined to create this wonderful butterfly. The gems are sky blue with wispy chocolate webbing that spreads like water throughout the stones. Liz has appropriately named this piece "butterfly with eye lashes". With one hundred carats of fine natural turquoise of the finest quality produced at the mine, this is one of her best. Liz has included an incredible amount of detail in the design of the piece including hand twisted sterling silver wire, both large and small droplets, an intricate layer of beads encircling the abdomen and beautiful coils of silverwork in the lower portion of each wing. These fantastic creations are seldom seen on today's market and are highly collectible.
