Vernon Haskie-Navajo
Vernon lives near Lukachukai Arizona among the red rock canyons that comprise the heart of the Navajo Nation. He was born in 1968. As a child he apprenticed jewelry making with his father, Leonard. In 1992 he attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. On the weekends he worked on jewelry, primarily overlay and inlay, to help pay his way through college. Often he would bring us pieces to our old town gallery which we eagerly purchased for display in our shops. He graduated in 1996 with a degree in biology. After graduation he moved home and began his illustrious jewelry career. Focusing on inlay and three dimensional crafting he quickly became known as one of the finest Native American jewelers. Taking inspiration from the work of Harvey Begay and Charles Loloma he began entering competitions and art shows. Over the following decades he won every major competition he entered. Santa Fe Indian Market, the Heard Museum show And Gallup ceremonial have all bestowed him their best in show awards. Today he stands at the pinnacle of contemporary Native American jewelry.
