Philander Begay is widely recognized as one of the most innovative carvers of tufa stone jewelry. This great pendant clearly illustrates his creativity. A pueblo "koshare" or clown at a ceremonial function polices the dancers with a drum in one hand and a rattle in the other. He is naked except for his loin cloth and moccasins. He wears a headdress with corn tassels and a squash blossom around his neck. His body and face are painted with black and white stripes. The piece is heavy and substantial due to the amount of sterling used to create the piece. In short, the pendant is a perfect representation of the dancer.

This gorgeous concho belt was created by Navajo jeweler Calvin Martinez in the early 1980s. Calvin has made the piece entirely from scratch from ingot sterling silver. First the ingot is melted then rolled, cut, hammered and filed. Only a select few jewelers are carrying on with this technique due to the labor involved and it produces a lovely patina. Calvin is a pioneer in the revival of sterling silver ingot jewelry. This design is unusual as he made only a hand full of this style. The oval conchos are cut out and the sides are deeply stamped. The buckle is solid and stamped to match. All of his work is collectible, as he has been producing ingot jewelry for over forty years.
