The Candelaria hills contains several claims of rare turquoise. It is a mining district that has produced since the late 1880s. The most beautiful turquoise comes from a claim owned by the Silver Standard mining company, which has depleted the mine over time by open pit exploitation. The mine leased its turquoise production once in 1985. Most of the turquoise found in the marketplace came from this lease or by high graders robbing the dumps. Today the dumps are covered with over burden and fenced to keep trespassers out. This classic turquoise is now exceedingly rare, valuable and collectible so much so that when a squash blossom necklace appears with 32 matched gems, it is an event unlikely to reappear. Sammie has set these exquisite natural specimens in hand made ingot sterling silver blossoms encircled with chiseled bezels and his signature fluer de lis design. These attach with fine hand made sterling silver beads created by master bead maker Margaret Lee. The beads meet an ingot Naja of unsurpassed quality. Fine hand made dangle earrings finish this masterpiece to perfection.
