Juan Pedro Garcia was an early pioneer in sterling silver jewelry in Santo Domingo Pueblo, New Mexico. A contemporary to the famed jewelers, Vidal Aragon and Julian Lavato, he started his career in the 1950s. His signature look involved combining carved leaves, gem grade turquoise and coral in traditional styled jewelry. He was influenced by the carvings of Zuni Pueblo introduced to him by Ben Eustace. Although Zuni, Eustace was married to Felicita and living in Santo Domingo. This marvelous bracelet from the 1960s combines the essential elements in his design, including the use of hand stamped sterling silver leaf motifs. The well worn turquoise is most likely Blue Gem from north central Nevada. The natural stone exhibits classic hues of deep sky blue and golden brown matrix. The Mediterranean coral of the piece is large and flawless deep oxblood red and the mother of pearl, brilliant white and carved by hand. Unique and rare, the bracelet is a fine collectible.
