Created by award winning Navajo silversmith Derrick Gordon, this remarkable bolo tie showcases an exceptionally large and rare gem grade natural Sierra Nevada turquoise cabochon displaying vivid sky blue coloration interlaced with a dramatic chocolate and black spiderweb host rock matrix. The intricate webbing and vibrant color create a striking natural composition, making the stone a true focal point of the piece.
Sierra Nevada turquoise originates from a small, historic hat mine located in the Candelaria Hills of Nevada, overlooking the expansive Sierra Nevada mountain range of California. Known for producing a limited amount of highly distinctive material, turquoise from this source is uncommon and increasingly sought after by collectors for its rarity and exceptional character.
The substantial gemstone is secured within a handmade bezel and mounted on a solid ingot silver bolo plate, emphasizing both the impressive scale of the stone and the masterful craftsmanship of its setting. The bold silverwork provides the perfect backdrop for the turquoise, allowing its natural beauty and intricate matrix to take center stage.
The bolo is paired with a handmade leather lanyard featuring a flat back for enhanced comfort and wearability. Elegant handcrafted sterling silver cylinder tips complete the design, adding a refined finishing touch while reflecting the traditional silversmithing techniques for which Derrick Gordon is renowned.
Combining rare Sierra Nevada turquoise, substantial ingot silver construction, and exceptional Navajo craftsmanship, this bolo tie is a collector quality piece of Native American jewelry. Its remarkable stone, bold presence, and timeless Southwestern design make it a standout example of wearable art.
