This is Nataska, a Soyoko uncle and the spiritual being who enforces good behavior among the children dancing with a bow in one hand and a lightning bolt in the other. His slit deep oxblood red coral tongue lashes out at the children, his monstrous head inspiring fear and dread. Although Navajo, Phil grew up among the Hopi in the checker board region near their villages. His amazing talent expresses the essence of the kachina with a large 18 K gold crescent moon and stars over the Pueblo on one end and the ogres dancing legs on the other complete with long leggings and moccasins. In the middle he holds a staff or lightning bolt with electric colors of natural lapis, coral, turquoise and lime green Carico Lake turquoise. At each end set in a fine chiseled bezel sits a large marvelous matching natural Bisbee turquoise gems of the finest quality. The gems exhibit gorgeous hues of deep translucent blue with reddish and purple matrix signature to the mine. In the middle, as in a dream, is a storm cloud, set on his loin cloth, inlaid with coral, lapis and 18K gold.
