Exquisite- This piece was hand fabricated by award winning Navajo artist Ned Nez, famous not only for his spectacular design in sterling, but for his use of only the finest natural American turquoise. The item is set with seven rare gem grade Aztec turquoise collector quality cabochons making this piece is of the finest grade. The stone contains exceptional vibrant hues of deep blue with chocolate, golden, and deep red spider web matrix. The Aztec turquoise mine was first discovered in 1889 by George Simmons who detected remnants of an early and primitive lapidary shop. According to Frank R. Morrissey, author of Turquoise Deposits of Nevada, "From a study of the implements, archaeologists estimated the mine must have been worked 200 years before Columbus reached America... The presence of the lapidary shop argued for an intelligence which realized the economy of transporting finished, or partly finished, turquoise from the site, rather than the rough ore with its waste rock. It is thought to indicate the miners may have been Aztecs or Toltecs." An amazing history for a spectacular rare form of turquoise. In addition, the artist skillfully encircled the stones with gorgeous silver work including sterling silver droplets, hand twisted wire and intricate detail on the inside as well.
