A large overlayed fan design curves out from the twisted wire and petite droplets with crescent shaped reposse work on either side. This exceptional piece was created by award winning Hopi artist, Chalmers Day. The item features an incredibly intricate sacred turtle design with precise cutouts used for the shell patterns, head, arms, legs and tail. Turtles in the Hopi religion symbolize the bearers of life, the ones who bear the weight of the world on their backs. Six water design scenes are displayed on the turtle's shell with triangular shapes, waves, symbols in swirls, and deep oxidation. The artist included an extra special touch with two smaller turtle designs that dangle from the bottom of each of the tips.
