Leo has cut four cabochons out of incredibly rare gem grade Red Mountain turquoise and interspersed the large and small segments with deep oxblood red Mediterranean coral and deep blue lapis to create the stunning effect. Red Mountain of this quality is exceedingly difficult to find on today's market and the turquoise exhibits an astonishing amount of deep blue depth with vibrant reddish-brown spiderweb matrix. Each segment of stone is inlaid precisely one to the other, raised in a channel to fit perfectly. A thin line of solid gold is placed in the center as a special touch. To each side is a design reminiscent of the Waterbird, the symbol of the Native American Church. Leo himself is an elder in the church and renown medicine man.

They are set off by rectangular pendants dangling below the turquoise. The pendants tell the story of the pueblo with stars in the night amidst and approaching rain storm. Vernon Begaye has incorporated a wide variety of fine natural gems including coral, sugilite, snowflake obsidian, Turquoise Mountain and Royston turquoise, onyx, serpentine and several others and layered them atop one another in a cascade of sterling silver. A dot of turquoise sits in iron wood as a small cross is placed on the top. The final product is a masterpiece of lapidary design and clearly a fine collectible.

This amazing bolo tie was created by Navajo jeweler Vernon Begaye using turquoise from several mines. Morenci, Kingman, Sleeping Beauty, New Lander and calcasiderite are expertly inlaid amongst Mediterranean coral to create the striking effect. The inlay is placed in a heavy tufa cast plate with highly polished and incised edges. The bolo is held by a fine hand woven cord from which tufa cast tips signature to the artist are fixed. The final one of a kind piece is elegant and highly collectible.
